What does a family session look like?

If you’re hesitant to book a photo session because you’re afraid that you won’t know how to pose, or what to do with your hands – don’t worry! I’ve got you covered. Nobody feels comfortable in front of a camera unless they’re a model that does this for a living! But by the end of our time together, I promise you’ll be feeling confident and comfortable – and your pictures will look great!

During a family session, I *usually* start out with a traditional posed portrait with everyone looking at the camera. This is when kiddos are usually at their best and ready to stand and smile for the camera. I’ll guide you on how to stand, what to do with your hands, and I’ll make sure everyone looks great.

Then we’ll transition to some fun, playful, and interactive shots. I have lots of games and prompts and questions up my sleeve to keep the little ones engaged. I’ll give you some general ideas of what to do, but I leave plenty of room open for candid moments. We’re constantly moving and the time will fly by!

And I try to capture as many different angles and groupings as I can – so we’ll do some with just mom and the kids snuggling and laughing, some with dad tickling the kiddos or flying them like airplanes, and even some with just mom and dad together. Before our session, I’ll send you a questionnaire that really helps me get to know your family, and gives you a chance to tell me anything special you’d like to get out of our session!

My biggest piece of advice is to relax – don’t spend the whole time fretting about whether your hair is just perfect or if your makeup looks okay. The best images are always those that aren’t too “perfect” – the ones that show true connection and movement and real smiles and laughter. So breathe, have fun, and let me do the rest!
